  • Building physics assessment of facade greening and roof greening.
  • Development of standardized measurement methods and characteristic values to take account of building greening in the energy design of buildings

Short Facts

  • Duration: 01/08/2021 – 31/07/2024
  • Funding: Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
  • Joint project

In the U-green project, commercially available facade and roof greening systems will be catalogued and classified. Corresponding test specimens and outdoor measuring systems will be set up, greened or adapted. The greening systems are then comprehensively thermally characterized, whereby the dynamic thermal behavior of the systems is of particular interest. For the characterization, both laboratory methods and adapted methods suitable for outdoor use will be developed, validated and applied. The measurement methods to be developed in the project should enable accurate, reproducible and comparable characterizations of green building systems and thus provide a scientifically basis for the development and application of industrial standards. The measurement methods to be developed and the parameters to be derived from the measurements, simulations and calculations are strongly oriented towards practical use and the need for standardization and will be aligned in exchange with relevant stakeholders with regard to a corresponding standard. This opens up the possibility of reliably predicting the thermal insulation effect and evaporative cooling performance of greening components and systems, determining them on an ongoing basis and taking them into account quantitatively in building planning.
