Natural Risks and Hazards in a Changing World (NatRiskChange)
The DFG Research Training Group „Natural Risks and Hazards in a Changing World (NatRiskChange)“ aims at developing and improving methods for identification, quantification and prediction of natural hazards (flooding, droughts, landslides and landslides) and associated risks.
Our research group focuses on risk and hazard assessment associated with drought, flashfloods and soil erosion resulting in land and vegetation degradation in dryland settings.
In close collaboration with researchers at the University of Potsdam, FU Berlin, GFZ Geosciencenter Potsdam and PIK Potsdam Institute for Climate Change Adaptation, we contribute with two research studies contribute to the overall aim of the DFG Training Group:
Project P4: Assessment of early-warning signals and tipping points of sudden ecosystem shifts causing rapid land degradation in drylands PhD student: Jennifer von Keyserlingk
Project I9: Analysis of concurrent climate extremes driving land degradation and recovery in the Mediterranean regions PhD student: Johannes Vogel
